The Veera Surendra Sai Nagar Unayan Parishad has protested the delays in completing an underground road between VSS Nagar and Sahid Nagar. This has been necessitated after the Vani Vihar-Acharya Vihar flyover was opened.
Because of the incompletion of the roadwork, the residents of the VSS Nagar area and 10 other adjoining Mouzas face a lot of difficulties to connect to Sahid Nagar. The road is dusty during the summer days while it turns muddy and is full of water puddles during the rainy season.
Notably the Vani Vihar-Acharya Vihar flyover was opened on April 24, 2014. “While two years have gone since the opening of the Vani Vihar-Acharya Vihar flyover, the proposed underground road from the VSS Nagar is yet to be completed and made operational,” lamented Parishad general secretary Dillip Dashsharma.
Following a protest over the issue, the Police Commissioner, after a discussion with the NH authorities, had assured to open the underground road within three months. Though the construction had started, but the engineers had no clue that a water pipeline from the Kuakhai river to Bhubaneswar passing through the area would block the underground road, said Dashshama. later, though the NH and the PHD authorities held a meeting where they decided to change the course of the pipeline at an estimated cost of Rs 1.90 crore so that the underground road can be constructed but even after 20 months, the same could not be taken up, he added.
The Parishad demanded completion of the road before monsoon.
