One person was killed and four others sustained grievous injuries in an accidental explosion in front of a medicine shop at Daspalla in Nayagarh district on Monday morning.
Preliminary investigation revealed that explosive materials carried by a man in a bag burst accidentally in front of Patitapaban Medicine Store at Durga Bazar in Daspalla town. While the man with the explosives died on the spot, four persons sustained serious injuries.
Police began investigation into the incident.
While two of the injured persons were admitted to the Daspalla Hospital, the two others were shifted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital as their condition deteriorated. The deceased was identified as Kahnu Charan Nayak.
“The man carrying the explosives was a professional blaster and worked in stone quarries. It appears that it was not intentional but an accidental explosion,” Daspalla PS IIC Chakrapati Kanhar said.
