A person was killed and 20 others were injured after a bus turned turtle near the liakhia bridge in the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as the bus helper Dilip Behera.
Sources said the mishap occurred when the bus was on its way to Kakatpur from Puri. Eyewitnesses said the driver of the bus swerved to save a cow but lost control of it, following which the vehicle skidded off the road and overturned.
Reports said there were nearly 35 passengers in the bus. “It appears to be a case of rash and negligent driving. We have registered a case and further investigation in this connection is on,” said the Ramchandi police station Officer-in-Charge Pramod Sahu.
Sahu further informed that the local police had reached the spot immediately after the mishap and injured were then immediately rushed to the nearest hospital. Sources said the condition of three passengers is said to be critical.
