The Commissionerate police arrested an elderly tribal man for allegedly raping a minor girl and his wife for assisting him in the crime and forwarded them to court on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Monday night at a slum here.
The police also apprehended a youth identified as Okila Soren (32) for thrashing the couple taking law into hand in a kangaroo court held by self-proclaimed lawmakers. The other accomplices are on the run.
According to police, Birsa Murmu lured the 11-year-old girl by offering her chocolate and raped her in an inebriated state with his wife’s assistance at the Radhakrushna lane slum under the Chandrasekharpur police limits.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after the girl narrated her ordeal to her family members. Following this, the girl’s relatives called a kangaroo court, where the couple was tied to a tree and beaten black and blue until they fainted.
Police reached the spot on being informed about the incident and rescued the couple.
“Police have arrested a youth on the charge of thrashing the couple and conducted raids at several places to arrest other accomplices,” said Chandrasekharpur PS IIC Deepak Mishra.
