'Oil spill found at Atharbanki not of IndianOil'

PNS

The Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) on Friday stated that the oil spill found at Atharbanki near the river Kaudia in Odisha doesn’t belong to it.

“The oil spill has not been caused by pipelines belonging to the IndianOil. It has been checked and confirmed by IndianOil officials that the company’s pipelines do not pass through the location of the oil spill,” an official release said.

In fact, IndianOil officials along with officials of Odisha State Pollution Control Board inspected the site and observed a small strip of oil on the water surface alongside the banks of Atharbanki creek.

During the investigation, it was found that an oily substance similar to the marine oil used in fishing boats spilled on the soil and spread into the creek waters forming a patch of oily sheen, it said.

The release said media reports that the oil spill was from the pipelines of IndianOil is incorrect and a misrepresentation of the facts.
