PNS

The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC), has ordered the Nesco CEO, Baleswar, Nesco Electrical Division Executive Engineer Jajpur and CESU, Jajpur and the Jajpur district Superintendent of Police to submit an action-taken-report (ATR) about the death of two persons due to electrocution in Jajpur district.

The OHRC asked them to submit the report within four weeks. The commission passed the order taking cognisance of a petition filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain, which was transferred by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to OHRC.

In her petition Swain alleged that one Bijay Kar of village Dhobakoili under the Mangalapur PS in Jajpur district and Prakash Chandra Parida of village Narantara under the Nimapada PS in the district, died after a 11 KV wire fell on them while they were working in their farmland.

She appealed to the commission to take criminal action against the guilty officials and pay compensation of Rs 25 each to the next of kin of the victims and also to provide employment to one of their family members.
