'OHRC received maximum plaints against cops'

PNS

Acting Chairperson of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Justice Bira Kishore Mishra on Tuesday said nearly 7,000 cases have been registered with the Commission so far this year of which a maximum number of cases are against the police administration.

Speaking at a function organsied to mark the International Human Rights Defenders Day here, Mishra said on an average, 37 cases are registered with the Commission and 25-30 cases are disposed of on a daily basis.

“A wrong conception still prevails among the public that the Commission was not able to take any effective step on their complaints. This is wrong. People should eschew such misconception about the Commission and rely on the effective functioning of the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC),” said Mishra, adding that a mass public awareness is needed to change the scenario. “The Commission is not at all sitting idle. It is taking appropriate actions to ensure justice to the complainants,” added Mishra.
