Though it issued a notice earlier, the Cuttack district administration failed to evict a private person from a patch of Government land for the second time on Wednesday in Kanakpur village under Kanpur area as the concerned person managed to obtain a stay order from the High Court till December 4.
Earlier on September 26, the administration had also not been able to free the land from Ashalata Sahoo of the village as she obtained a stay order from the High Court till October 13 at that time. On both the occasions, the administration had issued notices to Ashalata to free the land following allegations made by villagers that her family had constructed houses and boundary walls on the Government land in front of house.
Ashalata’s husband Akshaya Sahoo argued before Government officials that why the administration wishes to free land encroached by his family when many influential persons have encroached valuable Government and Gochar lands in the Kanpur area. He demanded that a probe be conducted so that many patches of valuable lands would be restored to the Government fold in the area. The eviction team, which went to Kanakpur village for demolition, comprised Narasinghapur Tehsildar Dr Sushama Barik and police personnel.
