To attract the State Government’s attention to its demand for making moral education compulsory in educational institutions, the Odisha Durniti Sanghars Manch (ODSM) held discussions regarding promotion of moral education at its second annual session here on Saturday.

Corruption is on the increase by the day everywhere in the country. From the grassroots to high levels, political leaders are embroiled in illegal and unethical activities affecting the lives of innocent common people, the Manch noted.

Addressing the meeting, Sri Sri University Vice-Chancellor Kailas Chandra Mishra appreciated the efforts of the Manch and emphasised the need of moral education in school syllabus to eradicate all kinds of misdeeds from the society.

ODSM member Er Nandanandan Dash said lack of moral sense is the only reason for rising crimes. “If a child gets moral guidance from his school days, he would not commit any offence in future and would shape up as an ideal citizen.” He sought stringent punishment against the criminals and vigorous steps to build a corruption-free society.

He informed that a slew of suggestions have been submitted to Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and all State Chief Ministers on behalf of the city-based People’s Welfare Suggestions Forum, requesting them to include them in educational syllabus.

Manch president Umacharan Mishra said it is a daunting task to make India corruption-free. It would only be possible when all concerned go deep into the issue. If moral education is imparted in a sustained manner from now on, the country may be a totally free of corruption after 50 years.

Several educationalists and social activists present at the meeting spoke in the same vein. The Manch decided to submit a proposal to the State Government to immediately make moral education compulsory. The Manch also unveiled a magazine Sangharsa at the function.

Earlier, Manch members and supporters had taken out a massive procession from the Ram Mandir Square to the Red Cross Bhawan, where the meeting was held. They shouted anti-corruption and anti-women violence slogans and demanded introduction of moral educations in every educational institute.

Among others, Manch genral secretary Jagabandhu Sarangi, director Simantini Jena, youth convener Subrat Tripathy, vice-president Brajamohan Mohanty and Samaja Bhubaneswar chief Tapan Kumar Mishra also spoke at the meeting.
