The loan burden on the State Government would be Rs56,640.12 crore by the end of the current financial year 2015-16.
Finance Minister Pradip Kumar Amat informed this in the Assembly in response to a question of BJP MlA Dilip Ray on Monday.
The Minister informed that the Government had incurred loan of Rs 4669.89 crore and paid Rs2,252.67 crore towards principal loan amount and Rs3,332.02 crore towards interest during the year 2004-05. The total loan burden stood at Rs34,051.18 crore by end of the year.
The Government had taken Rs2,788.19 crore of loan in 2009-10 and paid Rs1,488.19 crore and Rs3,044.17 crore towards principal amount and interest, respectively.
During 2014-15, the Government incurred Rs7,636.54 crore of loan and paid Rs3,029.40 crore and Rs1,810.27 crore towards principal amount and interest, respectively.
