PNS

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik left on a five-day visit to New Delhi on Saturday.

During his visit to the national capital, he is scheduled to attend a ceremony of MoU signing between the Odisha Government and the Railway Ministry for setting up of two rail line projects, Jeypore-Malkangiri and Jeypore-Nabarangpur, at the Rail Bhavan on Monday.

The event would also be graced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.

Patnaik is also likely to meet some Union Ministers to take up projects related to Odisha. However, no confirmation about his schedule in Delhi was published by his office.

The Chief Minister would return on October 13.

To ensure rail connectivity to the tribal districts, the State Government had announced to bear 50 per cent and 25 per cent of the construction costs of the Jeypore-Nabarangpur and Jeypore-Malkangiri rail lines, respectively.

The State Government would provide land free for the Jeypore-Nabarangpur project, Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said.

Sources said the Railway Ministry and the State Government would have equity participation of 49 per cent and 51 per cent, respectively, in the joint venture (JV)

Notably, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi, who was an engineer with the Indian Railways, had made railway links in the area his major poll plank during campaigning for the last general elections.

The two backward tribals-dominated and Maoist-hit districts of Nabarangpur and Koraput would now find places in the railway map.
