Odisha Fire and Emergency Services issued notices to about 3,404 institutions during a month-long campaign after inspecting 4,605 locations. The drive covered residential buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, commercial establishments and industrial areas. Notices indicate reported deficiencies or documentation problems; they do not by themselves establish that every institution was unsafe.
Officials said about 200 institutions had allegedly violated approved building plans and that legal action had begun. The department is preparing a three-dimensional database of building exits, water sources and firefighting equipment and plans a public application to check fire-safety certificates. No launch date was given.
An earlier October 10 update reported more than 3,700 audits and division-wise inspections. The final totals reflect a later stage of the same campaign. Institution-wise notices, compliance deadlines, closures and enforcement outcomes remain to be verified.
