Odisha Biennale in city from Dec 23

PNS

The MUDRA Foundation along with the Odisha Tourism will organise Odisha Biennale with shows of dance, art, photography, film and fashion at the Kala Bhoomi, Odisha Crafts Museum here from December 23 to 31.

The event would bring together Indian artists from within and outside of Odisha and international ones from Japan, England, Brazil, Sweden and Mexico, said organizers.

Masako Ono, prolific Odishi dancer and a co-founder of the MUDRA, is organising the Odisha Biennale for the artistic heritage of Odisha and her desire to create a space for individuals of all backgrounds to share their art.

“With all art, be it Odishi dance, theater, painting, the artist is helping the viewer to escape from reality by creating an illusion of a different world. We’re excited that so many unique perspectives are going to be shared during this edition of Biennale. It’s an opportunity for these artists to experience Odisha, and a window for people of Odisha to see different approaches to artistic expression,” said Ono. Artist-in-Residence, René Loui from Brazil, is now interacting with people on the street and recording clips of them dancing. The aim is to encourage public participation and sharing of art by engaging with the local community. The final video will be screened throughout the biennale.

Workshops in bamboo craft, contemporary dance, editorial design and even a painting workshop exclusively for kids would be held. Performances will be held every evening from 7 pm onwards and admission for all performances is free, said the organisers. The entire schedule of events is available on https://www.odishabiennale.com/ and its Facebook page.
