Nearly 80 Odia labourers in Kerala have reportedly been thrashed and threatened by locals and the police administration.
It was alleged that the local police there locked the migrant Odia labourers in a room while the latter came near them for lodging a complaint against the miscreants.
According to sources, nearly 90 labourers from Puri, Brahmapur and Nayagarh had gone to Kallipetta in Kerala in search of work 10 years ago.
They have been working at Maongao for last 10 years. But for last few months some locals have been harassing them. The miscreants even physically assaulted them.
“Unable to bear the trauma, we approached the local police station seeking help. However, the police too
turned violent towards us and locked us in a room,” said Rahul Behera, one of the victims.
He urged the Odisha Government through a local TV channel to ensure their safety and security on
Kerala and their return to Odisha.
