The Odisha Diploma Engineers’ Service Association (ODESA) on Friday demanded action against Patnagarh MLA Saroj Kumar Meher for asking Kantabanji Road and Building Division Junior Engineer Jayakant Shabar to do sit-ups in the public.
A team of the association met the Chief Secretary, Secretaries of Home and Works Departments and the Director General of Police and placed this demand.
The members appraised the Chief Secretary and others that the Patnagarh MLA conducted a kangaroo court and asked the Junior Engineer to do sit-ups 100 times in five minutes in full public view. Even Meher threatened to slap him if doesn’t do sit-ups. Again, the MLA directed the Works Division Executive Engineer present there to slap Shabar or else he would be published.
“Taking laws into hand by an elected people’s representative is a serious offence. The association condemns the act of the MLA and demands that legal action be taken against him soon,” said the members.
