The Covid-19 pandemic outbreak has brought the world on its knees and a number of international and national sporting events have been either cancelled or postponed.

In this scenario, it has now come to light that the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) is going to conduct inter-district cricket matches.

This has led to apprehensions that the players and their families would face the risk of physical harm and even death.   Earlier, the State Government had instructions or guidelines following which educational institutions, places of worship were closed.

Sports activities and large public gatherings were also banned to prevent any spread of coronavirus.  These decisions of the Government were appreciated by all sections of society, said Orissa High Court senior advocate Subrat Kumar Nanda.

Due to the Government strict enforcement of guidelines under the instructions of Chief Minister Naveen Patnik the infection rate and fatalities in the State has declined significantly.

So, the Government should not grant permission for any sports events in 2020 to OCA or any sports till the pandemic is completely kicked out, said Nanda, who has sought the Chief Minister’s intervention on the issue.
