Nursing students hold demo before Assembly

PNS

The Nurses’ Action Committee held a demonstration in front the State Assembly here on Friday demanding that the State Government appoint the nurses, who have completed training after Plus 2 Arts and Commerce, as Government staffs.

It might be mentioned that since 2012-13, the Government has been giving an opportunity to Arts and Commerce students to study the GNM course of nursing, but after the completion of the course the Government made new rule that only the Science stream students can be staff nurses.

The committee alleged that the Government has recently given appointment to Science students in the Koraput Medical College, but Arts and Commerce students were not given the opportunity. The same is the case in other places in the State which has trigged resentment among Arts and Commerce aspirants.

The committee submitted a memorandum to the Health Secretary demanding provision of appointment to the students who have completed the training and are from Arts and Commerce streams.

The committee also demanded provision of a minimum salary of Rs  25,000 to the nurses.

Among others, Sarojini Sethi, Rakesh Mohanty, Ranjita and lizarani Sahu were present.
