After conducting a security exercise at city-based Mayfair hotel on Thursday night, the National Security Guard (NSG) was to carry out a mock drill at the KIIT University here late on Friday night.

During the exercise, some senior State police officials were scheduled to join hands with the premier security agency in carrying out the drill.

While the NSG officials remained tightlipped about the drive, this was a routine security exercise across the country by the elite agency following the Mumbai terror attack, sources said.

On Thursday night, the NSG commandos conducted a mock drill at the Mayfair hotel keeping an eye at the possible terror attacks. The mock drill was kicked off at 10 pm and lasted for three hours.

A senior police officer said a contingent of 40 NSG commandos from Delhi and Kolkata base carried out the drill. During the drill, the commandos demonstrated the hotel’s security personnel and other odd staff how to deal when terror strikes. The hotel was asked to enhance its security system a little more, sources said.

This is pertinent to note, amid apprehension of possible terror strike, the State Government had launched Special Tactical Unit (STU) in July, 2013. Equipped with the all the modern warfare, the unit is capable of combating terrorists and heavily armed criminals in urban area. The STU went through a year long vigorous training by the NSG at its Maharashtra base.
