Sarpanch of Areda gram panchayat under Khariar block in Nuapada district has been suspended by the Government for misappropriation of government money amounting to Rs4.75 lakh. Through an order on April 17, the Panchayati Raj Department has stated that Sarpanch Rebati Suna has willfully violated the provisions under Section-19 of the Orissa Gram Panchayat Act. The Nuapada district Collector had recommended the Panchayati Raj Department for suspension of Rebati Suna on the basis of an enquiry conducted by the Nuapada district panchayat officer. Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) Jayachandra Majhi and Sarpanch Suna were held equally responsible for the lapses. The district Collector had also served show cause notice to the Suna, but the latter did not evoke any response. However, Suna has been given an opportunity to explain her stand. A copy of the suspension order would be served to Suna for her response, sources said.
