The District Planning Committee (DPC) meeting of Nuapada district was held at the Collectorate on Friday under the chairmanship of Minister for Urban Development Puspendra Singh Deo.

A Comprehensive District Plan of Rs 1,005.25 crore, a proposal of Rs.20 crore for Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana (GGY) and a Biju KBK Action Plan of Rs 7.5 crore were approved by the DPC.

Projects suggested by people like road connectivity and electricity supply to Samadpadar village, road to Kapurgarh and Karandaba villages of Khariar block were also part of the action plans approved by the DPC.

The district Congress led by PCC secretary Adhiraj Panigrahi and district president Ghasiram Majhi staged a protest in front of the Collectorate alleging that there is huge corruption in the implementation of the GGY and other schemes.

“The BJD Government is using the scheme funds as their party funds. BJD leaders in connivance with the district administration are making money out of the schemes,” said the Congress leaders. They also alleged that the officials are taking five per cent in advance and allotting work orders to BJD loyalists in the villages.

“We demand that the GGY be implemented according to guidelines, i.e, for development of electricity, water sources and connectivity especially in Maoist prone areas,” the Congress workers said. They submitted a memorandum to the Minister.
