N'pada DM urged to extend crop insurance date

PNS

A BJP team met Nuapada district Collector Dr Poma Tudu and appraised her about various problems being faced farmers in the district.

They demanded that the period of crop insurance be extended and deep bore-well work be expedited.

“Registration for crop insurance has failed at many places due to failure of internet. Hence, the last date of 31 July be extended and farmers be allowed one more week,” requested the members.

They further complained that the deep bore-well irrigation scheme is not progressing much, which would provide alternative source of irrigation during erratic rains.

The Collector said the banks have been instructed to accept the insurance applications of farmers submitted through offline. About the deep bore-well, she assured that she would convene a meeting of the concerned officials soon to review the matter.

It is learnt that thousands of farmers have registered for support under the deep bore-well irrigation scheme by depositing required amount money long ago. But many bore-wells have not been dug and those dug are yet to be connected with electricity.

They also reported to the Collector about non-payment of input subsidy to farmers of Saipala gram panchayat under Komna block, who had suffered crop loss during 2017 Rabi season. The Collector the input subsidy has been sanctioned and that those would be distributed very soon.

The delegation comprised BJP State president Basant Panda, Krushak Morcha president Sanjay Tiwari, district president Sibaprashad Mund, Khamsing Majhi, Jadumani Panigrahi, Shankar Ahira, Goldi Agrawal and many others.
