N'pada DM transfer demand loses steam

AJIT PANDA

Enjoys support for steps against the corrupt

The demand for transfer of district Collector of Nuapada Jaykumar V by a section of political leaders of the district is gradually weakening as the general public as well as a major section of the politicians have voiced open support for his continuance.

“The demand for transfer of the present Collector has been spearheaded by a section of politicians, who are corrupt and dishonest,” says Congress leader Adhiraj Panigrahi. “The efforts taken by the present Collector for the development of the district are praiseworthy and he should continue,” adds Adhiraj.

The same feeling is echoed by many other politicians and community leaders of the district. Khariar MlA Duryodhan Majhi of BJP has repeatedly stressed about the continuance of Jaykumar. “He is doing good work for the district and hence should not be disturbed,” says Majhi. District Dom-Gana (SC) Samaj president Fakira Jagat says, “The corrupt politicians never appreciated the presence of any honest Collector in the district. These are the same people who worked against the honest ones in the past.”

The main opposition to Jaykumar has come from some of the elected members of PRIs led by vice-president of Zila Parishad Bhanu Majhi. Bhanu is sitting on dharana in front of the block office for last three days demanding his transfer.

He claims that development activities in the district have taken a beating due to the shortsightedness and inefficiency of the Collector. However, Sanjay Tiwary of BJP refutes this allegation. “These arguments are baseless. The only reason behind the demand to transfer the Collector is to make illegal money,” says Tiwary. These leaders are aggrieved, because the steps taken by the Collector have stopped them make money,” he adds.

There are many instances in the field to prove why the corrupt leaders of the district are feeling insecure. A contractor of Boden block has already completed the repairing work of a road from Kulekela to Tulsipada village in Karangamal Panchayat with a cost of `5 lakh. But interestingly there is no fund allotment for this work from the Government.

likewise, the road improvement from the village Dahanapali to Pitapani has been completed by another contractor, without any allotment. Information obtained from the District Planning office of Nuapada reveal that at least 50 such works have already been done in anticipation that the funds would be allotted either from WODC or MPlAD fund. The district Collector in all these cases has simply wanted to know whether the established procedures of work execution have been followed. It is revealed that in all these works the established procedures have been violated to benefit the corrupt politicians and contractors.
