Nine Councillors of the Anandpur Municipality on Tuesday served a notice for a no-trust motion against civic body Chairperson Saraswati Jena barely two months after ousting Vice-Chairperson Sandhyarani Behera.

Alleging massive corruption in the municipality, the nine Councillors met the district Collector and submitted their notice.

Keonjhar Collector N Thirumala Nayak confirmed that the Councillors from Anandpur Municipality submitted the notice for a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson.

“We are reviewing the legal aspects of the notice. An appropriate decision will be taken according to the municipal law,” added Nayak.

Out of the nine signatories, five belong to the ruling BJD, two to the Congress while two are Independents.

The chairmanship of Jena is under threat as the faction of dissidents constitutes a majority in the 16-member municipal council.

Saraswati Jena, however, said she has no knowledge about the move for a no-trust confidence motion against her.

Earlier on March 18, as many as 12 Councillors had voted against Vice-Chairperson Sandhyarani Behera in a no-confidence motion forcing her to resign. Besides, Chairperson of Keonjhar Municipality Meena Majhi had been ousted on December 28, 2015 in a similar fashion.
