Out of total mail/express trains, 26 trains originating from Puri, 21 from Bhubaneswar, 12 from Visakhapatnam and five from Sambalpur have now facilities of Automatic Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines from Gandhi Jayanti.

On successful acceptance and response from women passengers after installation of Automatic Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines in Bhubaneswar-Jagadalpur Hirakhand Express and keeping in view the demand from the passengers, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) decided to extend this facility in all important trains originating from its jurisdiction from October 2 starting from Bhubaneswar-Bangalore Prashanti Express.

This initiative is a part of ECoR’s drive to improve sanitation and hygiene.  The East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO) led by its president Madhulika Singh which is engaged with various philanthropic and socio-cultural activities sponsored the machines.

The price of the sanitary napkin is Rs 5 per piece. Passengers can get the napkins by inserting a Rs 5 coin in the vending machine and the machine can vend 75 pads at a time, expressed Singh.
