The State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday issued notification for rescheduled elections to the Ranpur NAC in Nayagarh district. Nomination papers would be filed between April 13 and 18 and scrutinised on April 20. The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be April 23. The polling would take place on May 5 and votes would be counted and results announced on May 6. The Ranpur NAC polls had been postponed after anomalies were found in seat reservation. The SEC has assured action against the polling officer. Ranpur NAC polls, originally planned to be held along with other eight local bodies on April 7, had been deferred by the SEC to a later date. While BJP’ Surama Padhi accused the BJD of misusing State powers to escape the polls, the BJD attributed the decision to the SEC.
