In a major setback to the agitating Gaon Sathis, who have been on a stir in front of the Assembly demanding regularisation of job and provision of monthly allowance since last week, Panchayati Raj Minster Kalpataru Das on Tuesday informed the House that it was not possible to pay monthly salary to the Gaon Sathis.
The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes during Zero Hour as Congress members drew the attention of the Chair towards the agitation by the Gaon Sathis and Gram Rozgar Sevaks (GRSs).
The Congress members along with leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh stood up on their seats, demanding payment of monthly salary to the Gaon Sathis and the GRSs in the State.
“Since the number of Gaon Sathis is huge, it is not possible to pay monthly salary to them. There is no such provision at other States in the country also,” informed Minister Das, adding that however, three out of the six demands of the GRSs were under the active consideration of the Government.
