There is no threat to the Hirakud Dam and electricity generation is no way affected,” said Chief Engineer (Dam Safety) Prasanna Mohanty, who headed a four-member expert committee that inspected the crack in the gallery 470 of the dam on Wednesday.

While admitting that there is leakage through the crack in the reservoir at Burla, Mohanty said this can be repaired by engineers in Odisha and that there is no cause for any alarm.

The Chief Engineer said another team of experts would inspect the cracks on June 15. Mohanty was accompanied by other team members, Deputy Director lingaraj Gouda, retired Chief Engineer (Dam Safety) Sudhakar Patri and Ramesh Rath during the inspection.
