Rumours of counterfeit Rs 10 coins being circulated in the market have triggered panic among the people in general and traders in particular in Subarnapur district.
Small traders in Sonepur, Tarbha, Dunguripali and Binka refused to accept Rs 10 coins. People, who are in possession of these coins, have been rushing to the banks to exchange it.
“When I went to buy a newspaper and offered a Rs 10 coin to the vendor, he refused to accept it insisted on a Rs 10 note. He said the coins have been duplicated,” said a local Pradeep Meher. Not only Meher, hundreds of people across the district faced a similar situation. Meanwhile, the local bank authorities have refuted the rumour and clarified that the coins are still in circulation in the market. It is just a rumour and no such ban on the coins has been imposed, said a bank official.
