Putting all speculations in a section of the media to rest, senior Congress leader and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kishore Das on Saturday made it clear that he is not quitting the Congress to join the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The prominent leader from western Odisha said in a statement, “It is being rumoured that I am quitting the Congress to join the BJD. I have been associated with the Congress since my student days. I am inspired by the principles and ideologies of the Congress party. I have been appointed working president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). I am discharging my duties with utmost sincerity and will continue to do so.”
Das further said, “There is no question of quitting thye Congress. Those who are spreading rumours about me should refrain from it.”
Notably, the speculations were to some extent fanned by Das’ statement during a meeting with party workers at Raghunathpalli under Kolabira block in Jharsuguda district where he asked his Congress supporters whether they would support him if he joined any other political party. The clipping of the same was run by various regional channels in the State.
