Though several parts of the State continued to be lashed by heavy rains since Wednesday, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena on Friday said there are no chances of flood.
Jena said eight districts have received more than 100 mm rainfall, while three blocks witnessed rainfall above 200 mm in the last 24 hours.
“There is no flood-like situation in any place in State, except at Mathani in Baleswar and Kashinagar in Gajapati district, where the water levels of Jalaka River and Bansadhara River, respectively, have crossed the danger mark following the persistent downpours,” said the SRC. Speaking on rumours regarding cyclone threat to Odisha on October 28, Jena termed it as fake news. There is no information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding any such threat. He ruled out any possibility of cyclone in Odisha on October 28.
“There were rumours on social media regarding a cyclone making landfall in Odisha on October 28. IMD has not made any forecast. I urge people not to believe such fake reports and not to spread fake messages. We would convey immediately when the weather office predicts so,” the SRC said.
He further said the district Collectors of the districts affected by heavy rains have been asked to submit the damage reports as soon as possible.
