'No need to go to police station, file FIR online'

PNS

There is no need to go to any police station or higher police officers. A person can log on directly to the citizen portal of the Odisha police and submit online complaints to the police station through internet,” said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Saturday.

While inaugurating a public awareness function for the Citizen Portal of the Odisha Police organised by the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), Patnaik said through the portal a citizen sitting at home or through a common service centre can avail a number of services at a click of the mouse.

Patnaik said the portal, a part of the larger crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS), would also enable police officers to deal with investigation of crime and discharge their duties more efficiently and in a transparent manner. This quick delivery system would also benefit the society at large and enhance the image of police, he added.

Through the portal, a citizen can avail issuance of character certificates, permission for taking out processions and rallies, issuance of FIR copy, permission for holding events, permission of holding protests and strikes, tenants’ verification, employee verification, registration of missing persons and registration of lost property. People could also track the status of their complaints registered by them on the citizen portal.

Chief Secretary GC Pati said the CCTNS project would be completed by the end of December this year. The Central Government has sanctioned only `39 crore for the project which would not be sufficient. The State Government would urge the Centre to help the project further, he said.

“If the Centre doesn’t take any decision to hike the project cost, we will finish the project with the help of the State Government,” said Pati.

Among others, DGP Sanjeev Marik, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy and SCRB Director B Radhika were present.
