Even though the Centre has allocated 52,000 houses to Odisha under the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) in the current fiscal, yet not a single house has been constructed in as many as 16 districts by December-end. Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Sahoo informed this in the State Assembly on Tuesday. Sahoo said 30 houses have so far been constructed in Baleswar district against 7, 341 houses allocated for the year. Similarly, one out of 5, 988 houses in Baragarh district and 15 out of 5, 707 houses in Cuttack have been constructed during the period. Similarly, only 101 houses have been constructed in 11 other districts. Notably, Jagatsinghpur district hasn’t been receiving any aid under the scheme for the last three years. In a written reply to BJP MlA Dilip Ray’s question, the Minister informed that a total of 10, 75, 616 IAY houses have been allotted between 2008-09 and 2014-15. Of these, 7, 67, 239 houses have been completed.
