Expressing strong displeasure over two-wheeler drivers not wearing helmets when travelling, Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police Jaya Narayan Pankaj has launched a road safety drive ‘No helmet, no petrol’ forbidding petrol pumps from selling fuel to motorcyclists without having the protective headgear.
Briefing reporters on Friday, Pankaj said no petrol pump in the district shall henceforth sell petrol to any two-wheeler rider coming for fuel without helmet. If any petrol pump does not follow this direction, it would be punished under Section 188 of IPC, he said.
After holding a meeting with petrol pump owners, the SP told the media that the Transport Department has launched a State-wide safe driving campaign to reduce the number of road accidents.
