No helmet, no petrol in Talcher from June

PNS

From June 1, no petrol will be supplied to the consumers of two-wheeler riders without helmets at the petrol pumps of the sub divisional areas here.

It was decided in a coordination meeting between the local administration and the petrol pump owners recently which was presided over by Talcher sub collector Mihir Prasad Mohanty.

Though the helmet rule is there since long, but it is not properly enforced. Consequently, though Talcher is a mines area and roads are always busy making them prone to accidents, helmets are hardly used by the two wheeler riders.

But from June, this will be strictly enforced and the petrol pumps will ensure that there is no petrol for no helmet, said an official.

He added that lawful action will be taken against the two wheeler riders and their pillion riders without having helmets.

It will be an example for other parts of the State, if all people abide by the rule, told SDPO Hemanta Kumar Panda and sub collector Mohanty.

All Odisha Petroleum Dealers’ Association president Biswajit Pattanaik, who attended in the meeting, assured full support to the local administration.

Among others, deputy collector Daridryabhanjan Madanmohan Patra, and CSO Kishore Chandra Patra were present.
