No Govt aid for Boudh orphan siblings

PNS

Even as the Centre and State have launched several schemes for orphan children and are trying to rehabilitate them in society, lack of proper implementation of the schemes is found in Boudh district.

The story of a 14- year -old Girl who is battling against all odds to sustain her family and educate her two brothers after the death of their parents speaks volume about the administrative apathy.

Namita of Partala village of Dapla panchayat under Kantakaal block in Boudh district and her two brothers, Sushil, a mentally retarded and Sushanta, are leading a miserable life after death of their widowed mother in December last.

Two years back on November 20, 2016, Namita’s father Sushil Mendili had died, who was a labourer and maintained his family out of his meager earning. On December 10, her mother too passed away making her three children orphan. Life turned worse for the three kids, who have very little of exposure to the outside world.

No help is forthcoming from the relatives. What they have is a thatched mud house. No other Government benefits have come their way. “We cannot pay bribes to the officials to get Government benefits. So, we get nothing,” Namita lamented.

Meanwhile, the locals have sympathized with the plight of the three and urged the administration to extend basic facilities to enable them to lead a normal life.
