Bhadrak SP Battula Gangadhar has issued an order banning DJ vehicles during processions in the district. Besiides, 11 DJ vehicles have been detained by the police.
The move of the police followed a couple of days after the Inspector-in-Charge of Basudevpur police station in the district was critically injured in an attack by some residents of lunga village in the area.
A DJ vehicle had hit a minor girl at lunga village on June 19 evening during a procession. The father of the girl lodged a complaint with the Basudevpur police in this regard, following which the police station IIC and three other policemen reached the spot.
While the cops were holding talks with the villagers over the issue, some of the latter started thrashing the IIC besides pelting stones at him. The locals also damaged a police van.
