Despite detaining four people for interrogation, the police were still clueless on Sunday over the brutal murder of four members of a family, who were found dead in their house at Shastri Nagar in Chandpur under the Ranpur police station in Nayagarh district on Saturday evening.
According to reports, angry people resorted to road blockade along the National Highway at Chandpur demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.Senior police officials rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and a forensic team for an on-the-spot investigation into the ghastly murder.
The shocking incident came to light when Sarat Patra, son of Kasinath Patra (65), working in a hotel in Bhubaneswar, arrived at his house at about 8 pm on Saturday and found it locked from outside. After entering the house through the back
door, he found to his horror his father, wife Suchitra, son Niti Sagar and daughter Sagarika lying on the blood-soaked floor. While the assailants had slit open the throat of Kasinath and Suchitra, the two children were strangulated. The incident has sent shockwaves across the district and people in Chandpur are demanding immediate identification and arrest of the killers.
Many people suspect this to have been an act of revenge by enemies of the Patra family or the fallout of a dispute with relatives. The police said they were on the job and would be able to crack the case at the earliest.
