No anti-rabies vaccine in Kendrapada DHH

PNS

The health scenario is in a shambles as the much needed anti-rabies injection is not available in the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here.As a result, dog bite patients have been facing a lot of problems. The poor patients, especially the BPl ones, have to face great hardship to buy the vaccine.

Sources said that treatment for the patients is not available in the district as the State Health Department has stopped providing the vaccine to healthcare facilities. According to sources, everyday around 75 victims are admitted to the hospital for administering anti rabies injection. But since February 9 last, the anti rabies injections are not available in the hospital. The patients are forced to purchase the vaccine from the nearby medicine stores at Rs 330 to 350 per dose.

Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Binayak Prasad Prusty, however, passed the buck, saying that the State Health and Family Welfare Department has not supplied the vaccines to the hospital. So it is out of stock, he clarified.
