No ambulance: Snakebite victim dies in M'bhanj

PNS

Unavailability of an ambulance on time led to the death of a snake-bitten person, Rajajit Naik (26), of Patharnesa village under the Suliapada police limits in Mayurbhanj district late on Sunday night.

Naik had been attacked by a venomous snake at the night when he was asleep. Though he woke up and promptly beat the snake to death, he began feeling uneasy.

When gradually his condition deteriorated, all attempts were made by his relatives to get an ambulance but to no avail. Finally, Naik was being rushed to the Baripada PRM Medical College on a bike, but he died on the way.

People in the Suliapada area have expressed anguish over the incident. The delay in taking him to the hospital for treatment due to the unavailability of an ambulance led to the untimely death of a young tribal, they allege.
