PNS

The wife of Niranjan Singh, who died on Saturday in hospital after taking a self-immolation bid in front of the district Collector’s office, late on Sunday night lodged an FIR with the Kendrapada town police against Collector Debendra Prasad Das and VlW Niranjan Behera, alleging that they were responsible for her husband’s death.

Ranjita alleged that her husband knocked the doors of the district Collector on the matter of her appointment as ASHA, but the latter did not pay any heed. The widow too demanded legal action against the VlW of Kalapada panchayat who demanded a bribe amount of Rs 5,000 for disbursing an incentive of Rs 10,000 to her husband for completing an IAY house in time.

She said as her husband was a poor, he could not bribe for which the incentive allowance was not paid.

The district administration did not take any steps in this regard despite complaint.

When contacted, the Additional SP-cum-the SP in charge of Kendrapada Ramesh Chandra Mohanty stated that police had received the FIR.

If in the inquiry allegations would be established against the Collector, then the higher ups would be intimated for necessary steps, Mohanty said.

The district administration on Sunday wee hours forced Niranjan’s family to call off stir before the district collectorate, where the bereaved members were squatting with the body.

Even, one of the police personnel was seen allegedly kicking the eldest daughter of the deceased, as she was not obliging.
