A petition has been filed at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the death of an infant after being administered polio vaccine at Balabhadrapur village under Ranpur block in Nayagarh district on Wednesday.
Alleging that human rights are violated in this incident, rights activist Jayanta Kumar Das has urged the commission to set up a high-level inquiry committee to find out the actual cause of the death of the infant and illness of eleven more children after taking polio drops.
He also urged the NHRC to provide Rs5 lakh as compensation to the parents of deceased infant and Rs1 lakh each to the families of the eleven other infants who fell ill after taking polio drops.
