After getting the reply of the Utkal University Registrar over safety, security and other related issues of students of the institute, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought response from petitioner Radhakanta Tripathy.
Supreme Court lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy had lodged a petition at the NHRC on August 3 last year alleging security lapse at the girls’ hostels and attack on university students due to entry of nonstudents and damaged boundary walls facilitating entry of goons to the university.
He had requested the NHRC to ensure basic human rights of the students by all means.
Pursuant to the notice by the NHRC university Registrar replied that the construction and renovation of the walls have been completed and proper security arrangements have been done with private security agencies and local police.
He had requested the NHRC to depute Special Rapporteur to investigate the case, direct the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of to arrest the culprits involved in illegal activities in the campus.
