National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) special rapporteur Damodar Sarangi on Friday visited the Posco project site at Govindapur, Nuagaon, Noliasahi, Bhuyanpala and Dhinkia to interact with the local residents and witness the ongoing land acquisition process which is going on in the area.

Sarangi first went to the Posco transit camp at Badagabapur where around 52 pro-project driven-out families are residing. He expressed his unhappiness over the State Government’s callousness to take steps for returning of these families to their native Patana hamlet. He assured the victim families to bring the matter to the notice of NHRC.

later, he conducted spot probe. Before returning to Bhubaneswar, he visited Govindapur where the administration has started land acquisition and talked with betel vine owners who have given their vines to the administration.

He also moved to Dhinkia, the anti-Posco bastion, and discussed with project opponents with regard to allegations of human rights violation.
