Alleging that crores of rupees have been misappropriated by Water Resources Department between 2010 and 2013 by floating tenders illegally for various projects, Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for its intervention.
Acting on a complainant the commission has directed the Chief Secretary to submit a report in this regard within eight weeks.
“Crores of rupees have been misappropriated by providing illegal tender in the repair of barrage gate of Hirakud, Mahanadi, Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Baitarani, Rushikulya, Banshadhara etc violating the procedure of open tender through departmental website which was reflected in the CAG,” alleged the petitioner in her petition. The petitioner urged the commission to take criminal/disciplinary action against the concerned officials.
