Human rights activist Rabindra Kumar Mishra has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking an action-taken report (ATR) from the Odisha Government on the falling of lumps of concrete from the ceiling in the in Jhilimundi Anganwadi Centre under Athmallick block of Angul district in which six students and a teacher were injured recently.

Mishra in his petition based on a report in The Pioneer has urged the NHRC to ask the State Government what action has been taken for the transformation of Anganwadi Centres in Odisha and what precautions have been taken for the social and economical security of small kids and Anganwadi teachers.

He has also urged the commission to direct the Government to provided compensation to the injured kids and Anganwadi teacher.

He pointed out that the Government authorities, being lawful custodian of the small children in Anganwadis, are liable to ensure their safety during school time. The reported incident is a true picture of the infrastructure and maintenance of the Anganwadis in the State.

Despite repeated requests to the Government, there is no transformation in Anganwadis and many of them are running in rented houses, Mishra stated.
