The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Odisha Circle Post Master General (PMG) to act over the issue of lack of rooms and staff at the Talagopbindha post office in Bhadrak district.

Rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy drew the attention of the apex human rights panel stating that residents of Talagopbindha gram panchayat have been suffering immensely as the post office lacks basic facilities coupled with staff crunch.

“Only one person has been managing the show as against the sanctioned three employees. As a result the man is forced to operate from his own house without rent which is absolutely illegal, arbitrary, the petition pointed out,” Tripathy contended.

He requested the NHRC to investigate the case and sought a detailed report from the Odisha circle PMG and Bhadrak district Collector to take appropriate action against the negligent officials within eight weeks and ensure basic human rights of the residents of Talagopbindha GP.

Earlier on a petition filed by Tripathy, the NHRC directed the PMG to act over the issue of post offices operating in the State in dilapidated houses.
