NHRC asks for report from BBSR DCP

PNS

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to submit an action-taken report (ATR) within four weeks, regarding the alleged kidnapping of the husband of a minority community woman of the Haladipadia slum under the Laxmisagar police station.

The NHRC said if the report is not received within the four weeks, the commission would be constrained to invoke coercive process under Sections 13 of the protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 for personal appearance of the DCP.

The NHRC passed the order taking cognisance of the NHRC case no. 4653/18/28/2018, filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.

In her petition Swain had alleged that a minority community Muslim victim Hasinara Khatun(49) and her family of Haladipadia slum are being humiliated and severely tortured by some Hindu anti-socials and drug mafia.

The anti-socials kidnapped Khatun’s husband after damaging her house. But though she filed an FIR with the Laxmisagar police, no action was taken by the cops. Instead they have lodged false cases against Khatun which is violation of human rights, alleged Swain.

She prayed the commission to provide protection to the victim, rescue Khatun’s kidnapped husband, take action against the errant policemen and pay compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the victim.
