The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recently directed the Cuttack district Collector and the CB CID Superintendent of Police (SP) to give compensation to Dalit girl Rosalin Mallick, who was harassed by self-proclaimed godman Sarathi Baba alias Santosh Raul.
The commission asked the two officials to ensure payment to the victim as per the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Rules, 1995 within six weeks.
Angul-based Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain had moved the NHRC seeking justice to the medical girl student, who happens to be a Dalit.
The commission has also directed the duo officials to submit the proof of payment to it within six weeks.
