United Forum for Cancer Hospital (UFFCH) members and patients blocked National Highway-6 near the tollgate here on Tuesday.
The agitators were demanding establishment of a cancer hospital in Bargarh under the MoU signed between the State Government’s Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and the Tata Trust.
As the district as a large number of cancer patients, a number of signature campaigns have been carried out and memorandums has been submitted to the Government to set up a cancer hospital in the district. But no steps have been taken to fulfill their demand, the protestors alleged.
All political parties and social workers expressed solidarity with UFFCH’S demand.
The agitation which started from 10 am to 3 pm affected normal life and vehicular communications was severely hit. The agitators warned that if the Government does not fulfill their demand soon they would intensify their agitation and it would be responsible for that.
