Mystery shrouded the death of a newly-wed woman on May 29 at Sarakantara under the Khandagiri police station in Bhubaneswar.
The deceased was identified as Prabhavati Nayak (27) of Tihidi in Bhadrak district. She had married one Prakash Khuntia of Sarakantara on April 28.As per the family members of Prakash, Prabhavati ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in their house.However, the family of the deceased alleged that Prabhavati was murdered by her in-laws.
“My daughter was being tortured by her in-laws after the marriage over dowry demands. Her husband was harassing her demanding a gold bracelet as dowry. They killed my daughter and then hanged her body,” the victim’s mother alleged. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Prabhavati’s mother, the Khandagiri police registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC and arrested Prakash. Further investigations are on.
